Welcome to the Laboratory for Innovations in MicroEngineering (LiME)! Research at LiME lies at the interface of cellular biology, biomaterials, and microtechnologies. Three key research areas at Dr. Akbari's lab are:
-We would like to welcome Nahiane Pipaon, who joined our group as a visiting student (July 2017).
-We are pleased that our paper on the application of microfluidic systems for studying anticancer drug screening is accepted for publication in the Journal of Drug Discovery Today (IF=6.3) (July 2017).
-We would like to welcome Dr. Junghyuk Ko, who joined our group as a postdoctoral fellow (June 2017).
-We are pleased that our paper about using microfluidics for mass spectrometry is accepted for publication in Trends in Biotechnology (IF=13) (June 2017).
-We are proud to announce that Daniel Pedde receives the IEEE Victoria Section Gold Medal in Biomedical Engineering for 2016-2017. Congrats Daniel!
-LiME member, Bahram, presented our recent projects at the 33rd Canadian Biomaterial Society conference in Winnipeg.
-LiME members, Bahram, Sadegh, and Mohsen presented some of our recent findings at the 26th Canadian Congress of Applied Mechanics (CANCAM 2017) from May 29th-June 1st.
-Dr. Akbari receives funding from the Canadian Institute for Health Research (CIHR) to develop smart wound dressings (May 2017).
-We would like to welcome Cidnee Luu, came back to LiME for another summer (May 2017).
-We would like to welcome Daniel Weinzierl, who joined LiME for the summer (May 2017).
-Dr. Akbari will give an invited talk at the Printing the Future of Therapeutics in 3D roundtable on May 5th, 2017.
-Dr. Akbari will give an invited talk at NANOLYTICA 2017 which will be held at Simon Fraser University on May 4th, 2017.
- We would like to welcome Dr. Ehsan Samiei, who joined LiME as a postdoctoral fellow as of May 2017.

-We are proud to announce that Daniel Pedde receives the prestigious Canada Graduate Scholarship for his Master's from NSERC. We congratulate Daniel for this great achievement (March 2017).

- We are pleased to announce that Lucas got the NSERC-USRA award this year. Lucas has been a part of LiME for almost a year and has received this award twice since joining LiME. Congrats Lucas (March 2017).
-We are glad to present some of our research projects at the BC Tech Summit this year in Vancouver (March 2017).
-Glad to see our paper on the development of a temporary skin graft for management of chronic wounds is accepted for publication in the Journal of Materials Science: Materials in Medicine (IF=2.27). More details are available here.
-We are glad that our study on the mitochondrial damage of carbon nanotubes in skin cells is accepted for publication in the Journal of Biomedical Materials Research: Part A (IF=3.3). More details are available here.
-Congrats to Sadegh for being selected as a finalist in the 3-min thesis competition at UVic (February 2017).
-Dr. Akbari presented some of the research activities in LiME to the public as part of Cafe Scientifique presentation series.
- Congrats to Lucas and Erik for winning the prestigious Wighton Engineering Product Development award. This is a great achievement!
-We welcome Sukhpreet and Brent to LiME.
-Congrats to Daniel and Bahram for their accepted paper on the biofabrication of tissues in Advanced Materials (IF=19). This work was a collaboration between LiME, the Willerth lab at UVic, Arizona State University, and Technical University of Denmark. More details are provided here.
-Glad to see our paper on the use of microfluidic systems for detection of extracellular vesicles was accepted in the Journal of Biosensors and Bioelectronics (IF=7.5).
